Sprinkled Confetti

I kept thinking, we’re going to venture out and do fabulous, fun, beautiful things, but we didn’t. We stayed within the four walls of our home, just us. However, there’s something just as fabulous, fun, and beautiful when sitting around in worn out gray thermal leggings that are baggy in all the wrong places, matched with a faded-out t-shirt with babies constantly crawling all over you.

You see, our lives can become hectic in split second and suddenly we find ourselves going, going, going. We bite off more than we can chew. We over-volunteer. We scribble down more to-do’s on our already over flowing to-do list making it impossible for any one man to accomplish, but that’s how we live. It’s how we thrive.

Then again, there are times when it’s good to rip up that to-do list into confetti-like pieces, toss it up in the air, and leave it where they fall.  And that’s exactly what this was- a week was full of scattered confetti pieces.

Some of the pieces fell in Downtown Anchorage, where my girl and I spent some mommy/daughter time together. We drove to the top of the parking deck to stick our heads out to listen to the roaring streets below before making our way to the dance store for new ballet slippers.

It’s one of Krysta’s favorite things to do when heading to the mall- seeing how tiny the cars and people look from up above. For me, I dig the views.

Yup, you heard right. Krysta’s starting dance class- ballet, tap, and jazz to be exact. It’s another year of pirouette spinning, plie’ bending, and toe pointing. She’s over the moon to “reunite” with her dancing buddies and her teacher, Mrs. Karen.

As this week rolled on, my ripped up to-do list sprinkled itself around our home until we were knee deep in a pile of confetti nothingness.

We did alot of studying, home cooked meals, playtime, and of course, just being.

Do you see that moon? We starred wide-eyed at that harvest moon in anticipation of all the bounty and wonder this season is going to bring forth during the holidays.  The best time of the year is quickly approaching! *squeal*

While we were busy doing nothing, God was busy doing alot of somethings. Do you see these? Lately I’ve been watching a bunch of sunrises and sunsets. I can’t seem to get enough of these cotton-candy skies in the mornings before the babies wake up, and then in the evenings, the rolling of golden clouds as the day seeps away. I feel so rejuvenated during these tiny wondrous moments.

Being at home -in our core- surrounded by each other, was exactly where we needed to be. After all, home is where the heart is.

When my girl and the hubs just got home from school and work today, they came baring gifts for me- a root beer and a bouquet of flowers! They know exactly how to make my heart swell.

Krysta says, "Mom, I just want your day to be even gooder."

How can you not love that? She's seriously the sweetest, and I'm the luckiest mom ever to have her as my daughter.

Good night ya'll. I'm off to cuddle with my lovies.

Smooth as Honey

Do you ever have those days where you know it’s going to be a good one? This morning was one of those times. Everything just fell right into place, like a jigsaw puzzle. There were no turning the pieces or pounding fists trying to smash the pieces together or attempting to wedge the circular ends with your thumb because you know they were suppose to fit into one another and it had to be some sort of mistake on the manufactures end. No, not today. All the puzzle pieces slid right into one another effortlessly. It was awesome. It was carefree and relaxing. It was just how life should be.

It was gorgeous today. The rain and fog cleared, making the mountain scene picturesque- bright blue sky, snow-capped mountains, and the sun was playing peek-a-boo through the white cotton ball clouds. The smell of the air was so clean and crisp, just delicious. I dig this time of year. It’s so comforting in the security of your home kind of way.

Have I mentioned how easy going today was? It was as smooth as honey. We woke up after getting seven hours, yes seven hours, of blissful sleep. Ron made eggs for breakfast while I brewed a pot Boca Java Coffee. The aromas instantly filled our house luring Krysta downstairs with a hungry belly. William was still asleep, so it was just the three of us gathered around the breakfast bar talking about our goodnight’s dreams.

I love having pleasant, early morning, half asleep conversations with my girl before the rest of the world wakes up.

And the sweetness of honey continued to flow smoothly and steadily throughout the rest of the day.

The hubster and I met for some much needed Mexican food and quality time. It’s not often that we get to have a sit-down lunch date, so it’s a treat when the occasion arises. We can have real adult conversations without having to constantly keep babies stimulated by playing tic-tac-toe, word games, and mazes on the complimentarily kids book with four primary crayola crayon colors. We talk about the weather, the kids, the happenings on base, and of course politics. It wouldn’t be a normal day in the Roe Household without discussing Obama, Levin, and/or the upcoming elections- by the way, get out and vote this November!

After picking Krysta up from school, it was too gorgeous to stay inside. So we did something we NEVER do. We played outside BEFORE doing homework. I know, I know- I’m living on the wild side! I’m a rebel like that. Our days of 40 degree weather with sunshine are limited, so we’re soaking it up before the twenty’s, teens, and below zero something’s arrive.

Krysta pulled her chalk out of the garage while I swapped out the laundry and took out the recycling, and then we met in the driveway for some color explosion fun.

William watched us with curious eyes as we made colorful marks on the gray pavement.

Our creative juices were flowing.

We made stroke after stroke…

used color after color…

 formed shape after shape…

until our picture was finished.

TA-DA!

Of course we made Happy Faces to go with our Happy Fall picture.

I hope ya'll are having fabulous Autumn weather and that your day as been as smooth as honey.

I'm going to close today with a couple of pictures from my small city:

HAPPY FALL YA'LL!

Nothing and Everything

This week has been a complete whirlwind of emotion. I suppose the only getting four hours of sleep over the past three weeks has finally caught up to me. William has developed this “witching hour” during the night from roughly 1-5AM- give or take- where he wakes up every 15 minutes. It’s absolutely hair-pulling, and I hate feeling that way- the feeling of frustration. I want to enjoy mommyhood, both the good and the bad. But with my support system- the hubster- by my side I’m getting through it.

We’ve been dealing with sleep deprivation by doing a lot of this:

And of course, a lot of begging. Please William, please go to sleep. Pleeeeeeeease!

I just have to keep reminding myself that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle and that this too shall pass.

And so it did. After three exhausting weeks, William is now only waking up 2-3 times a night- last night only one time, thank God!

Shhh, don’t let him hear you cheering!

William’s better night’s sleep isn’t the only good news over in the Roe Household. Friday, Krysta came home from school with a bundle of flowers as a reward from her teacher for being so respectful. She was beaming from ear to ear, and my cheeks where hurting from smiling so much, so wide. Even now as I type, I’m still beaming. The little things like this lets me know that, hey I am doing something right. I am raising a well-rounded, respectful little girl, and it’s being noticed.

A few days later, my sore cheeks returned as I got a double dose of pride when she brought home the certificate she received for her good behavior.

I’m seriously *this* proud of her. She is rocking out second grade like it’s nobody’s business!

As one child is gaining teeth…

Yes, baby wipes helps him with teething. Go figure!

another one is losing them. We had another visit from the Tooth Fairy. Krysta’s losing teeth faster than they’re growing back! I swear, if we keep this up, she’ll only be able to eat mashed potatoes and jello.

**********************************************************************************

Over the past week, if it’s not rainy, it has been cold and foggy, and if it’s not foggy, then it’s cold and rainy. Either way, the weather held us up indoors- well, more like held us captive.

We didn’t fight it. We surrendered and embraced our time together within the four walls of our home. We played games, laughed, ate meals off schedule, and stayed in our pajamas longer than we should have.

And it was just what we needed. A day of nothingness that was everything all in one.

PS Check out these pictures. Aren’t they totally Halloween? So eerie.

Nostalgia. Oh, and a Baby Photo Challange.

This photo is being submitted in the Trendy Treehouse Baby Photo Challenge.
The Trendy Treehouse

This has been the first full week that I’ve been participating in photo challenges from various photography blogs, and I have to say that I’m really having a fun time. I LOVE seeing other people’s photos and learning about how to better my own photography.

So, with that said-

I’m nostalgically shifting through William’s newborn photos that we took one cold winter’s day back in February. Oh how he was so tiny.  So fresh. So new. I’m amazed at how quickly life changes in just a few short months.

Along with these photos, I’m also reminded of how far we’ve come in William’s health. We’ve been in and out of doctor’s offices, lab visits every 2-4 weeks, countless tubes of blood have been drawn, sleepless night and days of pure stress and worry. This is one of the reasons why I’m exclusively 100% breastfeeding. With all the ups and downs of his liver and kidneys, I want to make sure that he is getting the best nutrition possible.

My boy is strong. He’s a rockstar. We’re rockstars. And we’re living life to the fullest and embracing the hand that has been given to us.
